Tyrone Kane in line for Test Debut

Posted by MCC ADMIN (SH) on 10 May 2018

“Obviously it will mean a lot personally, but for my family it’s a very proud day.” said Tyrone Kane on the prospect of making his test debut v Pakistan.  He continued by saying “but more so than myself it’s for all the cricketers, coaches that have done their part and more along the way on this tremendous journey.”

TK has been an influential player for Merrion since he broke into the club first team aged sixteen and has been apart of the club’s Leinster Senior Cup and An-Ireland wins.

CUS in Lesson Street and Merrion have struck up a mutually beneficial relationship over the last few years and Tyrone Kane is proof of that. “My brother played in Merrion and there was a connection through CUS so that was that”.

Tyrone Kane’s call-up came of the back of some fine early season form for club and province. “I got a phone call after last weeks interpro game from Andrew White, the chairman of selectors with the good news.

Ireland will become the eleventh test nation on Friday and Tyrone called on “any member new or old to get down to Malahide on any of the days to be a part of history.”

Tyrone Kane and Ed Joyce are members of the fourthteen man squad for Ireland inaugural test.

Merrion's president Gerry Ormond expressed his pride at the news while speaking to merrioncricketclub.com, "The club is very proud of both of them, it is a terrific honour for them and Merrion that they are selected in the squad for Ireland's first ever Test Match". He also added "they both starred for Merrion youth and junior sides and got into the first team around the same age, Ed (15) and Tyrone (16)".
